Making the borough better

Each year, we invest in maintaining and improving the facilities which make our borough a better place to live. This June, we’re celebrating the ways we improve our borough.

These include:

We’ll be sharing more about how we improve our borough on our Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Building control back at the Royal Borough

Building control is returning as an in-house service at the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead on Thursday 1 July.

The service carries out building inspections and checks important aspects such as a building’s structure and fire safety.

The return of this service will provide dedicated local support for you and businesses.

Read our press release to learn more.
Will you make the pledge to pick?

Get involved with the Great British Spring Clean and help keep our streets, parks and benches free from litter.

During the past 12 months, our outdoor spaces have become even more important to us, so make sure you sign the pledge to pick and help make a difference for your community. Before you start picking, read the official preparation and safety advice.

You can learn more about why litter-picking matters, and how you can get involved, on the Keep Britain Tidy website.
Call blockers – stopping scam calls

Protect yourself, and older or vulnerable relatives, friends, or neighbours, from scam and nuisance calls by getting a call blocker.

These devices stop calls from unknown numbers coming through to a landline, but still allow friends and family to call as normal.

Our trading standards team has several call blockers available which it can supply and install for free. If you, or someone you know, are interested, please email trading.standards@rbwm.gov.uk.

More information about scams can be found on the Friends Against Scams website.
Are you green-fingered and proud?

If your garden is something to boast about, and it’s visible from a public footpath or road, you can enter it into our annual Garden in Bloom competition.

Submit your entry on our website, email gib@rbwm.gov.uk, or post it to the Mayor’s Parlour at the Town Hall, St Ives Road, Maidenhead SL6 1RF. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 30 June.

Read our press release to learn more.
Shape the future of our borough

There is still time to take part in our Clewer and Dedworth community response project.

This project, hosted on RBWM Together, has already helped plant a community fruit orchard, and planned upcoming workshops on youth engagement and adult learning.

RBWM Together provides a space for grassroots community projects to grow, share ideas, and connect with people across the Royal Borough.

If you have any questions, please email volunteer@rbwm.gov.uk.
Be wildfire aware this summer

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) wants to remind you to be aware of wildfires as we approach warmer weather and drier conditions.

Wildfires can be very dangerous and spread quickly, threatening people and wildlife.

There are simple steps you can take to prevent wildfires such as making sure cigarettes are extinguished properly, and not leaving glass bottles in woodland.

If you discover a wildfire, do not try to tackle it yourself. Move to a safe place, call 999, and ask for the fire service, describing the location and size of the fire.

For more advice on how to prevent a wildfire, download Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s wildfire guide.
