Windsor Coach Park footbridge works will now avoid Christmas to help businesses
Essential refurbishment of a footbridge, which
will enhance the sense of welcome into Windsor town centre, will now
completely avoid the Christmas trading period to help the local business
community.
After listening to concerns, we've split these
important works into two phases – with no scaffolding or bridge closure
happening during phase one, due to start on Monday 2 October and last around eight weeks.
Phase one will focus solely on refurbishing the
bridge lifts and will start with a site compound being set up in a small
area of the Coach Park. The bridge will remain open to the public via
its steps, however the lifts will be unavailable. Signposted alternative
routes and lift access will be in place from the Coach Park to the town
centre and castle for those who would usually use the lifts.
After a break for Christmas trading, the ambition
is to start phase two in the New Year and works will continue for around
17 weeks in order to maintain the bridge and enhance the sense of
arrival into Windsor.
During phase two, the bridge will need to be fully
closed to the public and encapsulated in scaffolding due to its
proximity to a working railway platform. Access to businesses will be
maintained throughout, and signs will be in place showing alternative
walking routes.

Plans for new secure public cycle parking at Windsor Leisure Centre
A new secure
cycle parking facility could be created at Windsor Leisure Centre,
benefiting residents and centre staff who choose to pedal to the venue.
We've
successfully bid for funding from Active Travel England to build the new
facility, which would provide storage for around 40 bicycles.
The proposal
is subject to planning permission. If approved, it is hoped the covered
facility will open in spring next year and would include dedicated
spaces for adapted and cargo bikes, as well as bike repair tools and
helmet lockers.
It will also feature a secure entrance door unlocked by an app, CCTV, lighting, and a see-through design to maximise security.

Mayor to host charity dinner at Windsor Guildhall in aid of former Army regiment
Our Mayor is hosting a charity dinner in aid of the Household Cavalry Foundation, his former Army regiment, on Friday 20 October – and tickets are now available for this special fundraiser at the historic Windsor Guildhall.
Councillor
Neil Knowles, who has also been appointed our Armed Forces Champion,
comes from a forces family and served himself in both the regular and
reserved Army, including in The Life Guards, part of the regiment.
The
Household Cavalry Foundation provides charitable and pastoral support
to members of the Household Cavalry family – serving soldiers,
operational casualties, veterans and their families. The Foundation also
supports the heritage of the regiment and welfare of its retired
horses.
Tickets
to his special Armed Forces Dinner are available on a
first-come-first-served basis for £65 each, including a drinks
reception, meal and live music from the Band of the Household Cavalry –
all in the magnificent surroundings of Windsor Guildhall.

Park Smart Maidenhead – make the most of your parking choices
Whether
you’re a savvy shopper, busy commuter, or enjoying an evening out, we
all want to find that perfect parking spot that meets our needs. Whoever

If
you drive into Maidenhead, park up and walk to your workplace, you can
get affordable long-stay day parking or season tickets at Hines Meadow, Vicus Way or Stafferton Way car parks. Hines Meadow is the most central location.
If you’d like to save money and don’t mind a 10-minute walk into the town centre, Vicus Way
is the cheapest option for commuter parking, offering all-day long-stay
parking for £6, or the equivalent of £3 per day with a season ticket.
Annual season tickets there are also £100 cheaper than Stafferton Way next door or Hines Meadow.
You can get season tickets for three months, six months or 12 months, with Vicus Way also having the option of one-month season tickets.

If you take the train to London or towards Reading for work, our brand new Vicus Way
car park in Maidenhead is a convenient five-minute walk to the
Elizabeth Line GWR station and it’s the cheapest rail commuter parking
in Maidenhead.
A great commuter parking base for London, you can park there all-day for £6 without a season ticket, or the equivalent of £3 with a season ticket. Annual season tickets are also £100 cheaper than Stafferton Way next door or Hines Meadow.
Vicus Way
always has free space for commuters, plus plenty of fast chargers so if
you have an electric vehicle then you can charge up while at work.
Vehicle entry is from 5am, allowing plenty of time to catch first trains, and you can leave 24/7.

Reminder: Everyone welcome to attend Battle of Britain Civic Service
You are invited to attend our annual Battle of Britain Civic Service in Windsor on Sunday 17 September.
This is a joint service for the borough to
remember those who contributed to Britain’s aerial defence in the Second
World War. The service will involve the civic party, Royal Air Forces
Association, Air Training Corps units and Parish Church.
If you wish to attend, please be in the vicinity
of the war memorial, in the High Street, by about 10.50am, to watch the
procession and short wreath-laying ceremony at 11am. The memorial is set
into the wall in front of the Parish Church.
After the wreath-laying, you are then welcome to
join the service itself at the Parish Church. Roads will be closed
temporarily for the duration of the procession and wreath-laying, and
for a few minutes after the church service.

Supporting Youth Mental Health Day 2023
Ahead of Youth Mental Health Day next Tuesday (19 September)
we’re highlighting this week just some of the mental health support and
services available to children and young people in the Royal Borough.
This year’s theme is #BeBrave
and focuses on helping to give young people the courage and confidence
they need to achieve their goals and ambitions, and be the best version
of themselves they can be.
Our
Wellbeing Team and Emotional Literacy Support Assistants work with
schools in the Royal Borough, alongside parents, carers, guardians, and
partner services, to support children with a range of issues including
feelings of anxiety. You can learn more about them in our short video.
There’s a wealth of professional guidance from Kooth (for children aged 10+) and the NHS on coping techniques available to parents and young people to help with anxiety.
Frimley Health and Care also has a helpful guide for children to help them manage their mental health. Their Little Blue Book of Sunshine is a great source of reliable, professional guidance.

with many items for gifts and home. A raffle will be organised with

Shakespeare’s First Folio on display (Saturday 16 September, 11am to 4pm, Sunday 17 September, 2.30pm to 5pm and Sunday 24 September, 2.30pm to 5pm) – Eton College. A copy of this iconic book will be on public display as part of national celebrations of the 400th anniversary
of the publication of the First Folio of William Shakespeare in 1623.
This pop-up display can be viewed with the temporary exhibition
currently running. Admission included with entry to Eton Action Fair on

The 50th Eton Action Fair
(Saturday 16 September, 11am to 4pm) – Eton College. Entry is £3 for
adults and £2 for children. All funds raised by ticket sales, pitch fees
and the students' stalls go to the five Eton Action charities; ABC to
read, Action Cerebral Palsy, Alzheimer's Research UK, Siobhans Trust
Ukraine and Windsor Foodshare. There will be food, an NSPCC jumble sale,
as well as a range of stalls. For children, there will be a bouncy
castle and a mini train, as well as the Ocean Express Play Bus, face

Maidenhead Music presents “Facade”
(Wednesday 20 September, 7.45pm) – Norden Farm. William Walton’s
musical entertainment – a quirky jazz-inspired music is set to the words
of the eccentric Edith Sitwell, and was first performed 100 years
ago. It is played by the Berkeley Ensemble, on flute, piccolo,
clarinet, cello, saxophone, trumpet and percussion. Tickets are £20 (£15
for members) from Norden Farm box office or on the door. Under 18s are

Autism in Girls Talk

Local Travel Updates
Rail - engineering work
Planned engineering works are taking place on the South Western Railway network this weekend, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September,
between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside. Buses will replace
trains between Staines and Windsor. More information on the SWR website.
Council highways works
Essential
maintenance work to repair the A355 and A332 Royal Windsor Way is almost
complete. This work will ensure this key transport link is ready for
winter and for years to come.
This has
involved a number of overnight closures on the section of road between
the B3024 Dedworth Road roundabout in the south and the roundabout at
the junction with the M4 in the north. The southbound carriageway will
reopen tomorrow morning, Saturday 16 September and two more overnight closures will be required on Monday 25 September and Tuesday 26 September. Read more on our website.
