Carpark at Broadway now open in time for Christmas

Christmas has come early for the many residents and visitors keen to use Maidenhead town centre more easily for their festive shopping after a new temporary public carpark opened today (Friday 6 December).

Following work to the Broadway site, the Royal Borough has granted the Christmas wish of many local people and businesses with the new car park behind the Nicholson’s Shopping Centre. Bringing glad tidings, and 100 new parking spaces, for borough shoppers wanting to park closer to the shopping centre and other retailers.

The new surface level car park will be run by Green Parking for the initial period of a year and conveniently provides those parking direct access into the shopping centre and out on to the high street.

See more information about the new carpark or visit our website to learn more about parking options in the Royal Borough

Be weather ready this winter

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for this weekend as Storm Darragh is expected to bring strong winds and rain across much of the UK including the South East this Saturday and Sunday.

While there are no flood alerts currently in place in the Royal Borough, the recent wet weather means river levels remain high.

You can help protect yourself and others by:

Visit our website for more information about who to contact and how to report issues during extreme weather.

Windsor Christmas Market cancelled due to weather warning

Following a weather alert for strong winds this weekend, we’ve taken the decision to cancel the Windsor Christmas Market that was set to take place this weekend (Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 December).

We want everyone to be able to celebrate safely and are looking forward to provide an update on a potential new date for the market.

Sign up to Street Tag season three

Pupils and their families from local schools took nearly 12 million steps in the borough, walking more than 10,500 miles, in the autumn season of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s Street Tag game.

The free family-friendly virtual treasure hunt, funded by a public health grant, encourages players to get healthier as they discover new places in their communities and use a smartphone to find hidden tags to win prizes.

Following the success of the first two seasons of Street Tag, the third season will be expanded to everyone, when it runs for eight weeks from Monday 13 January. Pupils and their families from the previous seasons can also play in the new year by simply moving their existing school accounts to the new community leaderboard

The community version again offers Amazon vouchers as prizes for the teams collecting the most tags. Teams can have up to six players and tags are hidden across the borough in a variety of locations including parks, footpaths and bridleways, leisure centres, libraries, playgrounds, as well as at historical and cultural sites. Players can also add their own tags along their favourite walking, cycling, running, or rolling routes if none already exist.

To find out more about Street Tag, or to sign up for the Royal Borough’s third season, visit the national Street Tag website

Share your views on parking guidelines for new developments

We’re asking for your views to help shape how parking is provided on new developments in our borough.

Your feedback will then be used to help create a draft Parking Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), that will guide developers to meet the parking needs of residents, local businesses and commuters, deliver safe and pleasant roads and promote connections between communities. It will only apply to parking that is provided in new developments.

The scoping document for public comment includes a set of draft principles and content for the SPD and includes learning gained from a detailed look at the parking guidelines used in neighbouring areas.
