BT withdraw July Infinity for Fifield

We learned today that BT have withdrawn their undertaking to start providing a fibre optic broadband service to Fifield during July 2012.

Although we do not have an email address for Mr Tim O'Sullivan of BT we are fortunate that Theresa May's office are extremely helpful and a case worker in her office agreed to pass on our questions.

Within a very short time an answer was forwarded to us -

"During the work to install the cabinet serving Fifield, engineers encountered unexpected blockages in the duct into which the new fibre optic cable needs to be fitted. This requires further excavation work and then new ducting will need to be fitted before we can complete the upgrade.

Unfortunately we won't be able to finish all of the work until after the Olympics as work like this in the highways (roads / pavements) is suspended until after London 2012.

We're sorry for the slight delay in bringing faster broadband to Fifield due to these unforeseen engineering and other circumstances.

Every effort is made to keep to estimated 'go live' dates, but they are a guide only. With an engineering rollout of this scale - currently the largest of its kind anywhere in the world - it is possible that dates can move forwards and backwards due to unforeseen circumstances."
