Drainage update 1 - 26.03.2010 - call for volunteers
At long last I have finally heard from Streetcare concerning the stretch of ditch by the speed hump on Fifield Road near Longlea Nursing Home.

It's rather non-news I'm afraid as the gist of it is that they can't get any response from the Gas Utility who way back last year put a block on any work before further consultation.

Streetcare have issued a third notice in the hope that this will jolt someone awake at the Gas board.

But in the mean time I have been saying that if Streetcare are not going to do anything soon then we will have to do some more volunteer manual work before the end of March.

So I intend to have another go with a mattock and spade from about 3pm on Sunday March 28. I will also be taking some drain rods in the hope of making a dent in the blocked pipe under the SEW site entrance.

Unfortunately my trusty supporter Norman Sandford is very unwell and unable to join me in this effort as he has done in the past.

While I am perfectly happy to do this on my own a lone labourer somehow doesn't present the desired image of Community effort that two or more might do.

So if any of you have a pair of wellies, a spade, a spare hour (or even 15 minutes !), and feel that you could manage a bit of physical effort to clear a few feet of ditch sufficient to allow the water to escape from this trap then I would be very pleased to see you at the speed hump from 3pm on Sunday March 28.

Hope to see a couple of you then.
