Drainage update 3 - 08.10.2010
We have now had an update from Simon Lavin at Streetcare in connection with items 2 and 3 on our list of "wet spots".

2 - Fifield Road - the speed bump area near Longlea Nursing Home

In early September five trail holes were excavated on the line of the ditch on the western side of Fifield Road between Coningsby Lane and The Retreat.

These trail holes indicated that the gas main does not run below the line of the ditch which is obviously contrary to statements made previously by the Gas Board.

Unfortunately Streetcare have not yet had the opportunity to discus this matter further with the Gas Board but we have requested to be informed when the work is scheduled. With winter approaching we will need to monitor this situation in case more temporary work by volunteers becomes necessary if matters are further delayed.

3 - Braywood Lodge - Oakley Green Road

Streetcare has not yet had an opportunity to look at the issue at Braywood Lodge. The normal presumption is however that the responsibility for the maintenance of roadside ditches lies with the frontager.

We have followed up on the basis that the main problem is not the ditch which if necessary can be improved by volunteers. The central issue is an underground pipe that runs under the roadside verge and under the entrances of 2 properties. We have asked if this should not be seen in the same light as the roadside gullies, culverts and pipes under pavements that we believe are currently understood to be part of Streetcare's normal annual schedule.

On a slightly more positive note ...

We understand that the Council is considering appointing a Land Drainage Engineer. If such an appointment is made we hope this should help progress some of the issues in the our area.
