Fifield Fun Day – 5th August 2017

A huge “Thank you” to everyone who sponsored, helped at and attended the Fifield Fun Day 2017.

Despite the mini tornado (which decimated at least one large gazebo and left 5 others severely sorry for themselves) and the monsoon weather, the gate numbers were only 20% down on last year.

The bar takings were only down by 10% - what does that tell you about the residents ??

Everyone seemed to come armed for the British weather and left damp but happy !

I can now confirm that we managed to raise a fantastic £7,500 for charity again !

The two main charities benefiting this year are The Thames Valley Adventure Playground and Alzheimers Dementia Support.

The Thames Valley Adventure Playground has provided a chance for children & adults with all types of special needs to enjoy the fun, freedom and friendship afforded by the opportunity to play and share experiences in a safe and stimulating environment, with users travelling from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, London and beyond. Alzheimers Dementia Support or ‘ADS’ is a charity which offers constructive practical guidance and a wide range of services to help people in the local community whose lives are directly or indirectly affected by Dementia

Cheques were presented to these charities at the Community Association’s AGM on Thursday 21st September in Braywood Memorial Hall.

Donations will also be given to a number of smaller local charities and not-for-profit organisations, who helped out at the Fun Day:- 1st Slough Scouts, Windsor Horse Rangers, Rotaract, Braywood Cricket Club, Braywood Memorial Hall and the Community Association (OGAFCA).

It was touch and go, whether the Fun Day was going to take place this year as we have really struggled with lack of volunteers in the past, so we are particularly pleased that we were able to raise so much.

Thank you once again – the Fun Day would not have happened without the generous donations and help from local businesses and residents.

We won’t be able to keep anything back for a volunteers party this time, but I am hoping that all our contributors might be prepared to come along to the village Hall one evening at the end of October. We will supply a buffet and would ask everyone to bring a bottle or whatever they want to drink.

We will present the cheques to the smaller local charities and give ourselves a pat on the back for all the hard work – what do you think ?

Last, but by no means least, any feedback you have on the day to help us improve things next year, would be really appreciated.

We are very grateful to everyone who has sponsored us, donated prizes, and volunteered to help. The day is only possible with your help.

A huge thank you to everyone who has come along to past Fun Days and made the days special - thank you so much for your support and look forward to seeing you next year !

The Fun Day 2017 turned over £10,303.20 and expenses were £2,870.95. There is still an outstanding issue with a supplier to be resolved but the net amount raised was £7,432.23 which will be distributed between the various charities mentioned above.

If you would like to help in 2018, donate a raffle prize, or sponsor one of the attractions (of which there will be many!) please get in touch.

Alternatively, just come along and have Fun!

We look forward to seeing you at the next Fifield Fun Day !!!

What we said leading up to Fifield Fun Day 2017

Every year the committee strives to improve the entertainment on offer and the amount raised for charity. We aim to support two main local charities each year and a number of smaller local charities, children & youth groups and not-for-profit organisations in the Fifield area.

Last year the Fun Day was a roaring success, due in part to the fantastic weather, but mainly to the residents of Fifield and Oakley Green who rallied to support the event. We raised an immense £7,500 for our chosen charities, the main beneficiaries being Taplow Traffic Charity Trust and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

We had all the old favourites, plus a number of new attractions, which proved to be very popular. We very much hope that we will always have the Fair Ground, the Dog Show, Punch & Judy, Tombola, Raffle. Auction, Beer Tent and BBQ. But we are always on the look out for new and unusual things for all the family to do, so please do let us know if you have any ideas.

This year we will be supporting The Thames Valley Adventure Playground and the local branch of Alzheimers Dementia Support plus the usual smaller local charities - 1st Slough Scouts, Windsor Horse Rangers, Braywood Cricket Club, Braywood Memorial Hall and the Community Association (OGAFCA).

There is so much to be done, not just in terms of booking the attractions and stalls (which becomes easier the more often it’s done) but, more importantly, in respect of the muscle and leg work required to put up and take down gazebos, shift straw bales, chairs, tables, banners, signage, bunting, raffle prizes, auction items etc. etc.

If you feel you can contribute please contact us by using either the email buttons or phone numbers top right. We need donations (raffle and auction prizes) sponsorship and, more importantly, volunteers. If you can spare a few hours before, after, or on the day, we would be very grateful as the Fun Day would not be possible without the generosity of the locals.

We really hope the Fun Day can continue, so please do let us know as soon as you can (email or phone top right) if you are able to help again this year for another Fun Day in Fifield. We look forward to hearing from you and to seeing you on Saturday 5th August for more FUN!

We are very grateful to everyone who has sponsored us, donated prizes, and volunteered to help. The day is only possible with your help.

A huge thank you to everyone who has come along to past Fun Days and made the days special - thank you so much for your support and look forward to seeing you next year !

The Fun Day 2016 turned over in the region of £11,000 and expenses were approximately £3,500. As of 12.09.2016 we were still waiting for some promised donations and there may be expenses not taken into consideration. Net amount raised was £7,500 which will be distributed between the 8 charities, the lion's share going to Taplow Traffic and Hearing Dogs.

If you would like to help in 2017, donate a raffle prize, or sponsor one of the attractions (of which there will be many!) please get in touch.

Alternatively, just come along and have Fun!

We look forward to seeing you at the next Fifield Fun Day !!!

About the Fifield Fun Day

The Fifield Fun Day has been held in August in Fifield village since 2003.

Originally the brain child of Gary & Helen – former landlords of the Fifield Inn – the Fun Day was successfully run by them and their team of volunteers for the first 6 years. Since then a stalwart team of volunteers has carried on the good work and in 2013 it came under the auspices of the Community Association.

The Fun Day was originally held in the grounds of Blenheims, courtesy of Paul and Tina and then, three years ago, it moved to it’s current venue - “Deep Meadows” the home of David & Patricia Buck. Deep Meadows gives the whole event a cosy, country fete atmosphere and the steam trains add extra nostalgia.

Every year the committee strive to improvement the entertainment on offer and the amount raised for charity. We aim to support two main local charities each year and a number of smaller local charities, children & youth groups and not-for-profit organisations in the Fifield area.
