Victory over HGV traffic
by OGAFCAP - 18.02.2009
For some time residents of Fifield have struggled to reduce the regular HGV traffic through the village on the Fifield Road. Shifts of roadside "monitors" had waited patiently to log the passage of trucks and take their license numbers. Unfortunately all this effort never seemed to achieve the hoped for results.

Bill Collier, an OGAFCAP volunteer, decided to try something different and recently put his camcorder to good use. He set up the camera in a window, focused on the Fifield Road, and set the camera running.

By analysing paused frames he has been able to decipher company markings on passing HGVs on Fifield Road. He then contacted the companies involved directly and they gave firm instructions to their drivers. The number plates of unmarked vehicles were reported to the police who have been extremely helpful.

Consequently we can report that HGV traffic on Fifield Road and through the village has virtually ceased. This will of course remain an ongoing issue requiring constant vigilance indefinitely but by any standards this is a spectacular success - well done Bill !
