Information for parking and travel in Windsor

We are working closely with our partners to put plans in place for the Committal Service of Her Majesty The Queen. If you're planning to visit Windsor, you can find all the information you need below.

If you’re planning to come to Windsor, please expect significant travel delays, use public transport if possible, and if driving make sure you know where you’re going to park before setting off early.

Please also ensure you plan for your return journey and be patient if you experience any delays due to increased traffic.

Rail operators will be providing extra passenger capacity on services to and from Windsor. Please check before you travel as these may be subject to delays. See the National Rail website for further travel advice.

All council car parks have provision for accessible parking, but please be advised that spaces in council car parks will be limited and the town centre will be very busy. Additional parking is available outside of Windsor town centre which is available at Windsor Racecourse and Windsor Review Ground for those wanting to park and walk into Windsor. Visit our dedicated parking page for more information.

The latest parking information, including additional parking provisions for those with parking permits and season tickets, can be found on the Royal Borough website.

Temporary road closures

A number of temporary road closures will be in place on Monday 19 September in order to facilitate the safe running of the day.

Further information relating to times and extent of the closures is available on our website so please check for regular updates.

In addition, in preparation for the day, there will be a number of road closures in place tomorrow (Saturday 17 September) from midnight until 7am.

Watch the services from home

Her Majesty The Queen’s State Funeral at Westminster Abbey and Committal Service at Windsor Castle will be broadcast live on television, radio and online on Monday 19 September. Further details have been announced about the Committal Service – see our press release for more information.

With significant crowds and travel delays expected in Windsor on the day, and limited capacity in public viewing areas, the best view will be from your home, or if the ceremony is being shown on a screen in your area.

The Procession will take in Albert Road and The Long Walk. There will be no ceremonial move through Windsor town centre.

Leave your tributes in the online Book of Condolence

In line with the Royal Household, if you would like to leave a message of condolence then please sign the national online Book of Condolence on the Royal Family website.

Our libraries have public computers where you can sign the book and staff are on hand to help if needed. Find the opening times of our libraries on our website.

Many of our community partners are also providing the opportunity to physically sign books of condolence. See the list on our dedicated webpage.

Reminder: Bank Holiday bin collection changes

Following the announcement that Monday 19 September will be a Bank Holiday due to the State Funeral of Her Majesty The Queen, bin collections across the borough will be one day later than usual next week.

Normal collections will resume from Monday 26 September.

More details are available on our website.
