We're wishing our Paralympians the best of luck in Paris!
If like us you’re missing the drama and the excitement of the Olympics then fear not, for next Wednesday sees the beginning of 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
With UK Sport predicting that ParalympicsGB will bring home 100 -140 medals from Paris, our Paralympians are set to maintain Great Britain’s place as the second most successful Paralympian team in the world.
|
ParalympicsGB will be building on the successes of previous Paralympians, like local residents Jeanette Chippington and Sophie Christiansen CBE, and this year another local resident, Louise Sugden, who won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, will once again be representing Great Britain in the power lifting.
We’re all immensely proud of our Paralympians and, like the rest of the country, we’ll be cheering them on over the next few weeks!
If you’d like to find out more about the Royal Borough’s links with the Olympics please visit our website

If you didn’t get the grades you were after then please do speak with your school for support and guidance on alternative options. You can also find independent wellbeing support via Kooth and on our website
| Work to revitalise Maidenhead's King Street completed ahead of schedule |
Plans to brighten up the town centre in Maidenhead took a big step forward this week as work was completed on King Street, creating more engaging spaces for walking and cycling.
The Government-funded work, part of our wider plans to brighten up the town centre, focused on the pedestrianised section of King Street, between Broadway and Keys Place.
This section now has a new dedicated space along its centre specifically for cyclists, with areas either side for pedestrians. These dedicated cycle and walking areas have visibly different surface types and obvious boundaries.
Along with the new bespoke paving, the spaces outside the existing businesses along this section of the street have been reconfigured to provide the option of introducing café-style seating, subject to the relevant licenses and permissions.
The work had been due to be completed this autumn, but has finished ahead of schedule. You can learn more about the revitalisation of King Street on our website

All welcome at Merchant Navy Day flag raising ceremony
Each year Merchant Navy Day is held on 3 September, to honour the brave men and women who kept the UK afloat during both World Wars, and to promote both a greater awareness of the country’s maritime heritage and highlight the UK's continued dependence on modern day merchant seafarers.
The mayor will lead a short ceremony at the Maidenhead Town Hall War Memorial, which the public are welcome to attend, at 10am on Tuesday 3 September. Following the ceremony the Red Ensign will be raised.

Could solar panels be an option for your home?
A green energy scheme to help you and local businesses generate renewable energy through solar panels, cutting energy costs and carbon footprint, is open in the Royal Borough.
We've joined forces with neighbouring councils to group bid for cheaper installation of solar panels through Solar Together. Residents and businesses, with permission from the property owner to install the panels, can register until 13 September.
The scheme offers solar panels with optional battery storage and EV charge points, as well as retrofit battery storage for residents who've already invested in solar panels and are looking to get more from the renewable energy they generate.
The applications are grouped together, and reputable installation companies then bid to carry out the work through a reverse auction overseen by a company called iChoosr. For more information please visit our website
