Amber Cold Health Alert. Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

Cold Health Alert issued for South East

The UK Health Security Agency has issued an Amber Cold Health Alert in response to low temperatures expected to last until midday on Wednesday 8 January.

Until then, anyone with existing health conditions, people aged 65+ and children are more at risk. Aim to keep your home at 18°C or more and check on vulnerable loved ones and neighbours. Health services may also be busier, and it is possible that roads and train services may be disrupted. Be careful out there.

See NHS advice on keeping healthy during cold weather or view more details about the alert on the UKHSA website

Recycle your real Christmas Tree

If you had a real Christmas tree this year, you can recycle it by taking it to one our Christmas tree collection points around the borough, including a new collection point at Clewer Memorial Recreation Ground, from Monday 6 January.

Please make sure you remove all decorations, lights, pots and stands before disposing of your tree. The last date for collection is Friday 24 January.

If you have a garden waste subscription service, you can also chop up your tree and place it in your green bin for collection after Monday 13 January. If your tree does not fit into the bin, or you do not have a subscription, you can take it to your nearest household recycling centre.

Please do not leave your tree next to your bin as our crews will not be able to collect it.

Please put your bin or sack on the kerbside before 7am on collection day and no earlier than the night before.

Garden waste collections will be paused from Friday 27 December and resume on Monday 13 January.

Flu and Covid vaccines extended this January

Frimley Health and Care has extended its vaccination programme for flu and Covid during January with local clinics and community pharmacies taking part.

With flu cases in hospitals up by 350% nationally from last year at this time, we are urging everyone eligible for the flu and Covid vaccines to protect themselves and their loved ones before the flu season peaks in late January.

Holyport roundabout upgrades start on Monday

Work to deliver an upgraded roundabout at the junction of Holyport Road and the A308 Windsor Road will start this Monday 6 January, as part of our commitment to a cleaner, greener and safer borough.

The design of the larger roundabout, based on your feedback, will improve capacity along the key route between Windsor and Maidenhead and make it safer for all road users to use the junction.

Funded by a combination of Local Enterprise Partnership and Community Infrastructure Levy funding, it will also include cycle and walking lanes and informal crossing points.

To make the road improvements as quickly and safely as possible, three-way lights will be in place until the end of July. Motorists are advised to expect delays and plan their travel accordingly.

Information on planned roadworks and live traffic issues can be found at one.network/
