Half term fun at borough libraries and Braywick Nature Centre


Join the fun at borough libraries this half term as we host a range of activities for everyone across the borough - including a nature talk, pop-up LEGO session, selection of craft activities and even special workshops for aspiring writers and jugglers!

Join our Education Appeals Panel


We're looking for volunteers to become members of Education Appeal panels that review cases where a parent or guardian has appealed against the decision to refuse their child a place at a particular school.

 

Panel Members must be empathetic, good listeners, and interested in contributing to the education of children in our borough - in return for full training in this important role in the education system.


There are no specific qualifications or experience that you need - we're looking for people who can bring all types of knowledge, background and experience to the role.

Love Local this half term at Leisure Focus


This spring half-term, Leisure Focus is celebrating their Love Local campaign with exciting activities across all six of our leisure centres! Whether you're into roller skating, water slides, swimming, or football, there is something for everyone - including casual and lane swimming, pay-and-play football sessions and more designed to keep you active and entertained.

How will you spend your extra money?


You could be eligible for more than £4.25 a week to spend on fruit, vegetables, milk, and infant formula with NHS Healthy Start -if you're more than ten weeks pregnant or have children under four plus receive either Universal Credit or Child Tax Credit. You’re instantly eligible if you're under 18 and more than ten weeks pregnant. The money is put on your NHS Healthy Start prepaid card every four weeks.

Here are some of the upcoming community events and volunteering opportunities in the Royal Borough: 

 

  • Get involved at Braywick Nature Centre by joining a guided session to support their community orchard with pruning of the fruit trees from 10am on Saturday 15 February. Bring your gardening gardening gloves and secateurs, meeting at the carpark at Ockwell Park.


  • King George VI Day Centre, Clarence Road, Windsor are looking for volunteer drivers between Monday-Thursday 9am to 10am and 1pm to 2.30pm. If anybody would like to spare some time helping our golden agers please get in touch with Sam or Lucy on 01753 853654, email or visit their website


  • Volunteer Opportunity: Become a Reading Mentor with ABC to read. Join ABC to read, a local children's literacy charity, and help children struggling to read reach their full potential. As a mentor, you’ll work one-to-one with a child to help them build their confidence. Full training provided – no prior experience needed, flexible commitment – just a few hours a week during school hours. For more information visit their website or email


  • Dementia café at Mountbatten Grange care home, Windsor. Aimed at those living with dementia and their loved ones, you’ll have the opportunity to meet other people, share experiences and take part in fun activities on the last Tuesday of each month from 10.30am - 12 noon. Their dementia team is on hand to give advice and support. Visit their website 


  • WAMS Stoma Support Group hold their monthly meetings on the 2nd Monday of each month at Dedworth Green Baptist Church, Smiths Lane, Windsor between 7pm and 8.30pm. This is a group for people living with a stoma and their carers with the purpose of sharing knowledge around stoma topics and networking with others going through similar experiences.   • The Arts Society Maidenhead invites you to join them on Monday 17 February at 11.30am for a lecture entitled “The Whiplash Line: A Survey of International Art Nouveau” at the Baylis Theatre in Braywick Leisure Centre. For more details please email

       

  • ECO Action Hub electric vehicle question time. If you are thinking about getting an electric car and have lots of questions – this session is for you. Held on Saturday 22 February, 11am to 12.30pm at the ECO Action Hub on Nicholsons Walk, Maidenhead. EV owners will also be on Maidenhead High Street from 10am for you to ask questions.   • Monday Friends takes place at St Marks Crescent Methodist Church, Maidenhead from 10.30am to 12.00noon on Mondays.   • A temporary road closure will be in place at the level crossing on the A30 London Road, Sunningdale from 12.30am on Saturday 15 February until 5am on Monday 17 February to facilitate level crossing improvement works. 

 

  • Two way lights will be in place on Summerleaze Road (Riverside) from Blackamoor Lane to Lakeside from Thursday 20 to Friday 21 February to facilitate thermal patching works.

 

  • A temporary road closure on School Lane and Lower Road, Cookham Dean will be in place from 8am Monday 17 February until 5pm Saturday 22 February to facilitate new mains connection.


  • Work to upgrade the roundabout at the junction of Holyport road/A308 Windsor Road is continuing with three-way traffic lights in place until the end of July. The project is based on your feedback and is funded by Local Enterprise Partnership and the Community Infrastructure Levy

 

  • Cycleway improvements will continue on Holmanleaze, Maidenhead until 14 March 2025 as part of our work to improve walking and cycling routes in the town centre.
