Support for VE Day street parties

We’re encouraging communities to come together with friends, family and neighbours to celebrate 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE Day) this May.

The historic anniversary, commemorating the end of World War II in Europe in 1945, will see celebrations planned across the country on May Day bank holiday Monday 5 May, starting four days of national events until VE day on 8 May.

To support residents who want to hold a street party on Monday 5 May, we’re cancelling the cost to close a residential road and encouraging organisers to submit their plans for approval by 5.30pm on Thursday 10 April.

Community organisations can also bid for money from the National Lottery Community Fund to help put on activities.

Eid Mubarak

We're wishing our communities a happy and healthy end to Ramadan with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr on Sunday 30 March.

For Muslims worldwide, Eid marks the end of a month of fasting and reflection that brings people together to focus on their faith, family and helping others.

The timing of Ramadan changes every year. This year, it will closely followed by Passover from 12 April and Good Friday on 18 April.
