The Fifield Fun Day of 2023 was a great success again despite the rain showers. We would like to share excerpts from a Facebook Review from one of the visitors who was a steam train enthusiast too ...
"This was an incredible event, with local charities and clubs coming together to put on a wonderful day for families. There were dog shows, fairground rides, craft stalls and a variety of different foods and drinks on sale… But most importantly, TWO full sized railways!! The private railway is home to a standard gauge railway that runs in a teardrop shape around the garden, offering steam hauled rides in two open plank wagons with bench seating. There were two steam engines in use: Andrew Barclay No.699 “Swanscombe” built in 1891 and the Aveling & Porter No.8880 “Sir Vincent” built in 1917 as well as a “Traction Engine” we loved running round the garden in wagons and talking to the loco’s driver, who we watch on You Tube (Lawrie’s Mechanical Marvel) Also in action was an impressive 5 ft gauge Finnish steam loco named “Lady Patricia". This is a mighty Hr1 class loco which used to pull heavy express passenger trains around Finland. Beautifully restored and resplendent in lined apple green livery, it now hauls passengers in its converted tender. What a novel idea! I wanted to share how much we enjoyed the day and how impressed we were at all the oganisation that the team had gone to, to put on such a lovely community event. We will definitely be back again! Thank you for putting on a wonderful event.” The Fun Day this year raised over £8000 and brought in over 1300 visitors! Our main two charities, Rosie’s Rainbow Fund and Alzheimer’s Dementia Support each received a £3000 donation which is an amazing achievement. Thank you to all those who helped make the day the success it was! |
