We are very grateful to David and Patricia Buck who once again opened their home to host the Fifield Fun Day.

This year was probably the best yet! We had record crowds - so many that our clicker broke! But we estimate somewhere in the region of 1,700. And the atmosphere was fantastic, so many lovely families, all determined to have a jolly good time – and they did!

Of course, the one thing we could not organise was the weather, and it was absolutely perfect, hot, but not too hot and very sunny. The only downside to that was, because of the dry conditions, it was decided that it would be a fire risk to run the big engine, Lady Patricia. But Hornpipe and Swanscombe circled the show filled to capacity with happy passengers.

The dog show had a record number of entries and the hilarious Musical Mats for dogs is growing in popularity. The small fairground area and all our children’s games were busy all day and the reptiles fascinated and educated by giving children hands-on experiences with these exotic creatures. For the adults the craft area had a wonderful selection of interesting and unique items and the catering area with barbecue, tea tent and bar was constantly busy.

To close the show our councillor, Suzanne Cross, brought her band, The Country Chicks, to entertain us with country music and line dancing. What a fantastic performance and what a great way to end a wonderful day.

We do not yet have a final figure for the money raised but we are optimistic that our two main charities (see details below) will receive substantial cheques.

Our main beneficiaries for Fun Day 2024 were -

Chattertots and SERV OBN (Blood Bikes).

Chattertots are a very small, Windsor-based charity supporting approximately 30 children with Down Syndrome and their families in the local area. As well as being a support group for these families they provide regular speech and language therapy, expert school consultancy, online interventions, resources for schools, social activities and a summer camp.

SERV OBN (Blood Bikes) receive no direct Government or NHS funding, so is entirely dependent on generous donations such as this to be able to continue operating. Their service to the NHS is provided free of charge to save them the cost of having to use taxies or commercial couriers out of hours, to transport urgently needed Blood, Blood products, medical supplies, medical equipment, and Human Donor Milk within NHS establishments across the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, and Northamptonshire.

It always takes a lot of planning and effort to set up the Fun Day and every year we ask for volunteers to help the day to run smoothly. We also ask for contributions to the raffle and the auction. If you think you could make a contribution in August 2025, or give up a little time to help, please do get in touch with us using one of the Contact methods top right.

If we don't see you sooner we look forward to seeing you in August 2025 for a fantastic day out !
