PRESS RELEASE

Wates Developments to host community information session for early look at AL21 design proposals

Wates Developments has confirmed a virtual community information session on 25th March, to enable members of the local community to learn more about its proposals on land west of Windsor.  Following extensive technical assessments of the site, it has been included as a draft allocation for approximately 450 homes, a Special Education Needs school and community facilities within the emerging Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Local Plan. The site will also provide 40% affordable homes to help meet local housing needs in the coming years.

To ensure that the community can become involved at the earliest stages of the design of the development, Wates Developments is required to prepare a stakeholder masterplan following engagement with the local community to understand the priorities and aspirations for the site before more work is completed and the layout of the scheme is worked up. There will be a full consultation in the coming months before this masterplan is submitted to the Council for approval.

Wates Developments has held a series of working group sessions in 2021 inviting local representatives and residents to discuss design principles with the Wates team and RBWM Officers, to ensure the design of AL21 meets best practice guidelines.  Wates Developments are now keen to invite the local community to a virtual information session on the 25th March, 17.00-19.00 for an opportunity to learn more about the allocation and emerging proposals for AL21 and also to register for the opportunity to speak with RBWM officers and the Wates Developments team.

Jordan van Laun, associate director for Wates Developments said of the community information session: “We have been working with the Royal Borough and Key Stakeholders through a Working Group in progressing proposals for 450 vitally needed homes (including 180 affordable) on land west of Windsor as part of the emerging Local Plan. Wates Developments is committed to supporting the Council in delivering family and affordable homes in the coming years and we have worked to engage with the local community as to how these will be brought forward alongside other community benefits. We would now like to broaden our engagement to understand the priorities and aspirations with the wider public before preparing our stakeholder masterplan for consultation. The session will be an opportunity for local residents to help shape our proposals and speak directly with the Wates Developments team and hear progress that the Working Group as made to date”.”

Cllr David Coppinger, Lead member for Planning and Councillor for Bray Ward added: “I would encourage members of the community to attend this event. Wates Developments have fully committed to working with the local community at an early stage of their development process. The Royal Borough has adopted a new way of working with developers and the local community, which gives local residents and other interested parties the opportunity to engage with the emerging masterplan much earlier than is normal with projects of this size and scale. We have been working with Wates Developments, whilst the emerging Local Plan is being prepared, to ensure that the Council is able to start meeting the need for family housing in the coming years. This is your opportunity to share your aspirations and comments so that they can be reflected in the design proposals.”
